Media program in collaboration with ITN

The Sri Lanka College of Microbiologists has ventured on a series of media programmes in collaboration with the Independence Television Network (ITN) channel. This is in view of creating public awareness about infectious diseases, infection prevention and control and related issues.

The inaugural programme was held on 11th July 2023 with the participation of Dr Rohini Wadanamby as the President SLCM and representing Microbiologists, Dr Geethani Galagoda representing Virologists and Dr Naamal Jayawardena representing Mycologists.

The 1st session of the series on ‘Rabies and responsible pet ownership’ was done by Dr Kanthi Nanayakkara on 14th July 2023.

The 2nd session of the series of ITN programmes of SLCM was telecasted on 21st July 2023. It was done by two of our members- Dr Geethika Patabendige and Dr Bhagya Piyasiri, along with Dr Krishantha Jayasekera (Consultant Physician, TH Karapitiya) on ‘melioidosis’.

The 3rd session of the series of ITN programmes of SLCM was telecasted on 25th July 2023. It was done by Dr Primali Jayasekera on ‘Deep fungal infections’.

The 4th session of the series of ITN programmes of SLCM was telecasted on 31st July 2023. It was done by our member Dr Kishani Dinapala along with Dr Achintha Dissanayake (VOG, Kotelawala Defence University Hospital) on ‘Asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy’.

The 5th session of the series of ITN programmes of SLCM was telecasted on 08th August 2023. It was done by our member Dr Ajith Pitawela on ‘Adverse effects of long term urinary catheters’

The 6th session of the series of ITN programmes of SLCM was telecasted on 14th August 2023. It was done by our member Dr Jude Jayamaha, on ‘Measles and rubella’.

The 7th session of the series of ITN programmes of SLCM was telecasted on 28th August 2023. It was done by our member Prof. Jananie Kottahachchi, on ‘Food poisoning’.
