
The existing national antibiotic guidelines published in 2016 is currently under review by the SLCM in collaboration with Ceylon College of Physicians, Sri Lanka College of Surgeons, Sri Lanka College of Internal Medicine, Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists, Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists, College of Cardiologists, Sri Lanka Orthopaedic Association, College of Otorhinolaryngologists and Head and Neck Surgeons of Sri lanka, College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri lanka, The Ceylon College of Critical Care Specialists, Sri lanka College of oncologists, Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
The review process was initiated by Dr. Geethika Patabandige, the President of SLCM in 2021/2022. Her council appointed an 8 member steering committee headed by Dr.Dammika Vidhanagama in early 2022. Further, several subcommittees were appointed by the Council to review the individual chapters of existing guidelines and to formulate new chapters according to the current needs. The process is going through 4 levels of review as follows:
The review process is expected to be completed by the end of October 2023. The SLCM is currently working with the Ministry of Health to publish the guidelines in both hard and soft versions. We hope by the end of 2023 the revised guidelines will be available for the end-users
