SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands 5 May 2017

'Fight antibiotic resistance - it's in your hands'

WHO urges you to focus on the fight against antibiotic resistance in the context of hand hygiene and infection prevention and control (IPC) programmes. You can do this by supporting the 5 May 2017 calls to action. Hand hygiene is at the core of effective IPC to combat antibiotic resistance, and campaigning each year on or around 5 May is one important part of improving behaviour towards IPC best practices. This year the campaign materials are all co-branded with ‘Antibiotics, handle with care’ to demonstrate unity between antimicrobial resistance and IPC efforts.

The Pre-congress of the Annual Scientific Sessions of the SLCM for 2017

The Pre-congress of the Annual Scientific Sessions of the SLCM for 2017 will take the form of the 2nd South Asian Melioidosis Congress.

This will be held at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel on 29th and 30th August. As its name implies this is the second Congress on Melioidosis to be held in this region, involving countries like India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan, to increase awareness about melioidosis. The disease is frequently mis-or under-diagnosed in the region and revealing the hidden burden of infection requires the co-operation of a network of microbiologists, epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, and public health personnel.
