Nadira Karunaweera (MBBS, PhD, FNASSL) is the Chair and Senior Professor of Parasitology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo and an honorary Visiting Scientist at the School of Public Health, Harvard University, USA.

She is the Founder President of the Sri Lanka National Chapter of Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World, Board member of the Women in Science and Engineering in Asia-Pacific, Association of Academies in South Asia and Pacific and is the current Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka.

She is also an Elected Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2019 and was elected as a Distinguished International Fellow of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in year 2020.

She renders services in an honorary capacity to many local and international bodies such as the National Science Foundation, Inter-Academy Partnership, World Health Organization, National Institute of Health, USA contributing to their functions that are related to governance and policy making in science, technology and innovation.

She has received many prestigious local and international awards in recognition of her scientific achievements in the field of tropical diseases that include the Fulbright advance research and lecturing award and Radcliffe senior research scholar award, Harvard University, USA.
