The 25th Annual Scientific Sessions 2016 was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation, Colombo 7 from 10th to 12th August 2016. The theme for the sessions was “Microbial Infections: Facing Challenges and Exploring Possibilities”.
This was preceded by a pre-congress workshop on 10th August 2016 from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm on “Acute Encephalitis – a clinical dilemma”. The workshop was chaired by Dr. Nalini Withana and Dr. Kumudu Karunaratne. Dr. Udaya Ranawaka, Consultant Neurologist, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Ragama spoke on “Challenges in the management of patients with acute CNS infection” , Dr. Nicole Gilroy, Infectious Disease Physician, WestMead Hospital and BMT Network, NSW, Australia spoke on “Acute encephalitis in immune-compromised patients” and Dr. Philip Rice, Consultant Clinical Virologist, Norfolk and Norwich, University Hospital, United Kingdom spoke on “Laboratory role in patient management” , Dr. Nilmini Wijesuriya, Consultant Anaesthetist, North Colombo Teaching Hospital, Ragama spoke on “Anaesthetist’s role in managing the patient in the ICU”.
The Inauguration of the Annual Scientific Sessions was held on 10th August 2016 at the Sri Lanka Foundation, Colombo 7. Prof. Mohan de Silva, Chairman, University Grants Commission was the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony. The President of the College Dr. Kanthi Nanayakkara delivered the presidential address.
