The Sri Lanka College of Microbiologists (SLCM) has organised a series of workshops, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ceylon College of Physicians, College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka College of Internal Medicine and Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, aimed at introduction of the "National guideline of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) for health care institutions in Sri Lanka” and the implementation of the newly introduced National Antimicrobial Prescription Chart and AWaRe classification of antimicrobials. These will be held as Training of Trainers (TOT) workshops at Provincial level.
The target audience includes administrators, prescribers including consultants, matrons, infection control teams, pharmacists and other relevant categories who are involved in AMS programmes in the hospitals. Nine workshops representing nine provinces will be held from July to October 2024. The schedule of provincial AMS workshops and the topics covered are as given below.
SLCM is eagerly awaiting the active participation of workshop participants aiming at realizing AMS. We believe these workshops will help all of us to understand our responsibilities and to actively participate in AMS programmes in our hospitals which is very essential, to prevent the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and to stop unnecessary spendings on antibiotics while ensuring patient outcomes and safety.
